AI4Good Lab is calling all women and gender-diverse people with an interest in building the skills needed for a career in machine learning (ML) and AI to apply for their 7-week summer program.
Applicants can anticipate a curiosity-driven learning experience that will leave them with a solid foundation in ML and AI. They will also benefit from the practical experience of transforming that knowledge into an AI prototype that drives social progress.
Developing AI systems that include different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences is critical, as it helps to safeguard against the perpetuation (and potential amplification) of human-based bias and discrimination.
Since its inception in 2017, AI4Good Lab has provided underrepresented individuals with the tools they need to confidently join the conversation around AI and ML. The program is designed to provide women and gender-diverse people with a fundamental education in AI, while addressing one of the biggest barriers they face in the industry: access to mentorship and rich professional networks.
As one of Canada’s three centres of AI excellence as part of the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy, Amii’s vision of “AI for good and for all” aligns naturally with AI4Good Lab’s mission. Dedicated to building a healthy and inclusive AI ecosystem, Amii is a proud partner and host to the Lab’s Edmonton-based cohort.

AI4Good Lab is open to women and gender-diverse applicants who are current students at a post-secondary institution or recent grads. Ideal candidates will have a strong math background and some programming knowledge – no AI experience is required!
Registration is open until January 31, 2024.
